Butler Street Christian Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1882 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1922, the late Rev. H.W. Evans and the parishioners of Butler Street erected a church that stood as a spiritual pillar in the heart of Downtown Atlanta. For one hundred years, Butler Street engaged the community by sharing God’s love and winning souls for Christ. We give glory to God for and celebrate the remarkable legacy at 23 Jesse Hill, Jr. Drive. As our time at this location has concluded, we are eternally grateful to God for the indelible memories and the selfless sacrifices of those who came before us.
Today, Butler Street stands optimistically at the entrance of a new beginning. God has graciously favored us with a new location and a vision for reaching the masses with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our new beginning requires us to be mindful of Jesus’ words, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8), and “To whom much is given, much is required”. We must also make sacrifices for present and future generations, just as Butler Street parishioners did more than a hundred years ago. Together, we will Build Tomorrow’s Church Today!
